There is Shenseea’s endorsement of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Jahvillani for Nigel Clarke, Dovey Magnum for Peter Phillips and my favorite, Spice for Lisa Hanna, among others. It is no surprise then, that reggae and dancehall music are being featured prominently in Jamaica’s 2020 election race in the form of dubplates. As a matter of fact, on any given day in Jamaica you will have to listen to good music whether you want to or not, as it can be heard blasting from outdoor sound systems, especially in Kingston. We use music to celebrate, highlight social injustices, numb our pain or to simply hold a vibes(relax and feel good). Jamaicans love music, which is obvious given the fact that Jamaica is the birthplace of reggae, dancehall, mento, rocksteady, ska, and several other musical genres. Unfortunately, the spongey soy protein cubes felt far from oxtails’ stringiness and taste despite the best efforts of an oaky, clove-heavy sauce.“One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain.” Bob Marley That and similarly plant-based options such as faux fish or curry “chicken” represent admirable steps to modernize comfort foods for 2022 and its range of diets. ![]() There’s a surprising number of mock meat alternatives to traditional dishes, like vegan oxtails ($14) made with Gardein soy protein. ![]() Like all Dubplate entrees, it came with pea-studded rice, plantains and boiled cabbage. Unfortunately, those iconic dishes weren’t in stock at Dubplate either when I visited. It’s hard to find items like ackee and saltfish (Jamaica’s national dish), calallo (a leafy green stew) and bammy (cassava flatbread) elsewhere around greater Sacramento. The set options are pretty limited aside from a veggie sandwich and a couple of salads, so I crafted a build-your-own sandwich ($9) with wafer-thin slices of honey turkey and pastrami alongside cheeses listed as “smokey sharp” and “hot pepper,” both of which were tasty but lacked the oomph their names promised.ĭubplate Kitchen & Jamaican Cuisinebrought new flavor to Arden Arcade when it opened at 3419 El Camino Ave. I wanted the sturdiness of Dutch Crunch but had to settle for soft sourdough after a morning rush cleared the shop out. That natural reliance on meatless ingredients shined in dishes like idli with sambar ($8), where a fluffy, tangy rice cake was born to soak up the vibrant tamarind-lentil stew.

She also points to the election of Ronald Reagan as president and the country's embrace of Christian conservatism as influences for the book. That tendency keeps bubbling up in America from time to time," Atwood said in a 2017 interview with Indigo. It was initially a 17th-century theocracy. "America was not initially founded as an 18th-century enlightenment republic. To depict the authoritative world run by the extremely religious right in "The Handmaid's Tale," Atwood drew upon history - mainly, 17th-century Puritan theocracy in America and the political climate of the country in the early 1980s. The government of Gilead was partly inspired by politics under President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. "But she is slightly a symbol of hope because they didn't actually manage to kill her. "'The Handmaid's Tale' is dedicated to Mary Webster because she is an example of a female person wrongly accused," Atwood told PRI's The World. She survived, but her story, recounted in detail in 1689's "Memorable Providences," set the stage for the Salem witch hysteria that began in 1692. They fingered Webster as the culprit and decided to physically assault her and hang her as punishment. After a well-respected government and church leader in the small Puritan town of Hadley, Massachusetts, fell ill, locals quickly drew the conclusion that a witch had to be involved. Webster was at the center of one of the most infamous "witchcraft" cases preceding the Salem witch trials. This means that loans will typically carry a higher interest rate than borrowings which makes it more expensive for companies to use loans as compared with borrowings.Ĭompanies usually use debt financing for two purposes: to acquire a specific asset, or to raise capital. Lenders and borrowers typically differ in terms of how much risk they take on which might be why some companies choose one option over the other. On the other hand, borrowers can offer financing at a greater rate than the market-rate interest rate because they have less risk associated with their investment. This is because their investments have more risk associated with them. Lenders can offer financing at a lower rate than the market-rate interest rate. Companies that want to lend money are called lenders and companies that want to borrow money are borrowers. When a company wants to acquire capital, it can do so in two ways: lending or borrowing. Investors expect companies to pay back their debt or equity investments with interest over time however, they also take into account risk within these investments and therefore charge higher interest rates for certain types of debt. In both cases, each type of financing comes with its own set of risks and incentives (e.g., interest rates). For example, when a company needs money, it can either rely on equity-based financing or debt-based financing.ĭebt-based financing entails borrowing money from external sources (such as banks) in order to fund its operations whereas equity-based financing relies on resources provided by owners' investment into a company's stock. In order for a company to be able to grow its business and make profits, it must have access to capital that it can use in different ways. So which one is better? Well they are both very good! The Complete Matte Concealer is a good, solid all rounder that does everything ok, But the Radiant Creamy is slightly more brightening under the eyes. Again, I have the shade Custard which is pretty much the same shade as the Radiant Creamy one. But for natural 'no makeup looks' this is perfect! This wears well on me to, although I do find it does fade slightly under my eye areas, but it wears all day perfectly on blemishes. It just looks like skin when it's blended! I do like the finish but I prefer something a bit more highlighting under my eyes. Although I wouldn't say it's matte, it's more of a very natural, satin finish. It doesn't have the same finish as the Radiant Creamy either. And the best bit, this doesn't crease under my eyes!! It does crease ever so slightly if I really pack it on but it's very minimal compared to the Radiant Creamy. I wouldn't say it's blurring but it definitely covers what I want it to. It's also really build-able or easy to sheer out, the coverage is really customisable! I found this works well on blemishes and under the eyes. I found the best way to apply this is with my fingers. But surprisingly this concealer isn't thick at all! It's actually really light. These type of concealers tend to have full coverage which is what I need. ![]() And I know how most people don't like these but I actually have a few I don't mind. Now, the first thing is this is in a pot. It also promises not to settle into fine lines or pores. This is an oil free, complete coverage concealer, that has a blurring effect on dark circles and blemishes. NARS Soft Matte Compelete Concealer | £23 I have the shade Custard which is a few shades lighter than my foundation, for highlighting purposes. I find this wears all day on me without, cracking, fading or looking dry. This does crease slightly on me (not too bad though, I've had worse) but I've come to accept that most concealers are going to crease, because I have to apply a good few layers to get the desired coverage (my dark circles are so bad!). It does have a slightly dewy finish, not wet and shiny it just brightens the area nicely. I do prefer to use this under my eyes because that's my biggest problem area. The formula is light and creamy so it blends out easily. Like I said this is one of my favourite concealers for my dark circles ever! It has a good medium coverage that's build-able to full. I've been testing them against each other and I'm ready to report back. It’s creamy and not too dense on the pot that it doesn’t tug on the skin when I blend it out. It's no secret that the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is one of my all time favourite concealers so when I heard about their new concealer launch and reading good reviews it sounded like a good investment. Either way, it’s easy to apply on the skin. Sometimes I’d use the smaller brush of the IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection Brush #7 to apply it but mostly, I use this brush to blend the concealer. I’d dip my finger in the jar, take a small amount first, then apply it in layers on where I would apply it. Most of the time, I will use my ring finger to apply this. I think I may try Nougatine L2.2 too, light with warm undertones. I can’t remember now how I matched myself to Affogato but as an undereye and dark mark concealer, it does the job so very well for me. You’ll see what I mean with my swatch below and you can see how it looks when I’m wearing it. There are a total of 30 shades available and what I have is Affogato L1.25 which is described as very light with cool undertones but it looks more neutral to warm on my skin. The Soft Matte Complete Concealer comes in a small clear, glass jar with 0.22 oz or 6.2 g of product. ![]() The construction of this particular plastic turf has rigid vertical and horizontal rows of thick, rice-like synthetic strands, varying in colour from rich greens to yellow-whites grouped together in tufts, which can cause inconsistencies in performance, stalling or deadening the movement of sports balls or players’ feet due to the differentiation between tufts and empty areas and the thickness of the individual fibres. The inclusion of pre-painted lines and lack of growing grass removes the costs and effort associated with routine maintenance, whereby groundskeepers no longer have to consistently cut grass and repaint lines to maintain consistency throughout a season. The dense plastic backing layer through which the synthetic grass fibres are thread is impervious to repeated impacts from users and studded or spiked sports shoes, without the surface becoming waterlogged and boggy during winter, or dry and dusty in summer consequently remaining serviceable all year round. This aids with maintenance, as damaged sections can be removed and replaced with ease immediately, rather than waiting for soil to heal and the grass to regrow, as with traditional planted grass facilities.
